The devil stands near my pulpit as the young girls drink me with believing eyes. As I sing my songs of praise, their adoration touches me and the devil smiles. They weep and gape, arms outstretched to me, in awe of their Lord. Damn, let it be their Lord.
Christopher Vera is the author of several books of poetry, most of which are still in his head, and none of which has ever been published. Vera's work has appeared in Ship of Fools, Shadow Poetry and the Magee Park Poet's Anthology. |
