ABYSS & APEX

"Whoever battles monsters should take care not to become a monster too, for if you stare long enough into the Abyss, the Abyss stares also into you."
— Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil, chapter 4, no. 146

"There are also lots of sites that feature mostly slipstream, literary surrealism, and soft horror (note: A&A does not publish horror – ed.), there's some good reading to be found on these sites, although only very occasionally anything that comes even close to core sf. ... Among the best are Revolution SF... Abyss & Apex Magazine of Speculative Fiction...Ideomancer Speculative Fiction... (and) Bewildering Stories."

–Summation, The Year’s Best Science Fiction 23rd Ed., Gardner Dozois, editor; p. xviii.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our poetry staff has new faces:

  • Robin Mayhall served as poetry editor through December 2006 and selected the poetry published in Issue 21, 1st Quarter 2007. We appreciate her many years of work on Abyss & Apex, most recently as poetry editor (her first love) and as acting managing editor before Wendy Delmater.
  • Our new poetry editor, Trent Walters, has had work in Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet, Full Unit Hookup, and Mid-American Poetry Review, among others. His chapbook, Learning the Ropes, is forthcoming.
  • Our new assistant poetry editor, Tom Simon, brings a knowledge of structured poetry to the mix, so if you send us an SF/F sonnet it will land on his desk.
